FAREWELL EVERYONE

This was a great course and I reassessing myself about my psychological, physical and spiritual. I do have a better understanding which I would say I am a 6 instead of a 3 when it was so new to me but I don’t know if I improved as much as should or could have. This semester was very overwhelming because my life was so crazy with my new business as a personal trainer, my newborn and other classes. Towards the end I was I tried and focus much more and some of the techniques began to even help me with my busy life. But because of being overwhelmed I never received the full understanding of everything. I did enjoy what I learned and it has pushed me to do more resource on the some of the information that was taught to me but I was at a disadvantage but I did my best to over come the obstacle and I have improved my life because of it. As the saying goes “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger”

Spiritually, Physically, and Psychologically in my personal life

Introduction

The importance of a health and wellness professional developing psychologically, spiritually and physically is very important in my opinion, as a personal trainer and a student of health and wellness how can you teach what you haven’t learned. Psychological is the development of human beings’ cognitive, emotional, intellectual, and social capabilities and functioning over the course of the life span, from infancy through old age, this is your learning phase which never stops but gives you experience to deal with different aspects and outcomes in your life to help you become knowledgeable and wise. Spiritual this is pertaining to the spirit or soul, as distinguished from the physical nature when you may have a spiritual approach to life.  Having this sense of spirituality or understanding can give you better view to deal with people and other religions and beliefs. Physically is also very important because it represents the physical appearance of mind and body and some people need the visual appearance to determine how they deal with you. In the fitness world I won’t say everyone but there are a lot of people from my experience that judge you on the physical appearance as a trainer. Your production as a trainer is also is establish by your health and wellness, which is your mind and body.
Breaking down which of the 3 I would need more to achieve my goals can be hard to say because they all work together. But if I had to choose it would be my physical because the physical to me is your mind and body which is also defined as your health and wellness so if I take the time to improve my physical which is my body it force you to deal with your wellness which is your mind. This improvement would be a key component to achieve my goals in health and wellness.

Assessment

In my assessment for each domain of my wellness status in my spiritual, psychological, and physical domains, I scored myself using numbers 1 threw  3. I kept it very simple, 1 needs improvement, 2 good and 3 Excellent.
The assessment for my spiritual wellness I gave myself (1) because I don’t feel I am spiritually involved as I could be, my wife would be a (3) which I feel that is helping me to accomplish a 2 because I am becoming more involved and what I don’t understand she is always willing to help me learn. The physical wellness I would give myself a strong (2) because being in the fitness industry it has helped to push me with healthier eating habits, taking care of body and becoming very focus as far as mind and body.  Also you must practice what you preach. Final my psychological wellness I gave myself a (3) because I am 44 years old and I am still learning but I have learned from my life experience, I have a 22 year old son graduating from college with honors, I have begun a new career after being a graphic designer for about 17 years, now beginning a life in the health and wellness field, I have a 4 month old daughter and a new bride and I am learning and building new goals everyday so my understanding of my thoughts and feelings are key to helping build and conquer these new dreams and goals.

Goal development

A goal I would love to accomplish with the physical development of my life is improving on healthier eating habits. I am learning and making changes but it is hard, you have to find that mid area so the change can become permanent. During this process learning about what they put into foods and actually understanding what labels mean has made this change become harder to just grab something and eat but on the positive side it is improving my planning.
The goal I would like for psychological is reading more getting chance to really study more about what I am learning in health and wellness and improve my knowledge and understanding of fitness and health.
My goal for spiritual is simple just to be more involved, if its church, church programs or just reading the bible I would like a better understanding.

Practices for personal health

Strategies that I could implement to foster growth in each of the following domains, Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Well for a general answer for all I would do two definite things one I would make a effort to schedule time once or twice a week for 30 minutes to evaluate the steps I am taking to have growth in these three domains and if no progress or plan has been written down then I would take that time to create small goals for the week for each domain, then I would also have a long term goal and see if my progress from my short term goals have me on the right track for the long term goal. That would be one option, the second option get a partner someone you trust that would push you and you can push them and with a partner you can make a competition or just you motivating each other.
What i feel are good for my physical domain, are muay thai kickboxing and running with music. Muay thai kickboxing i was doing 2 to 3x a week but work and school slow that down. i am now organizing my schedual better so i can try and get to a few morning classes. Muay thai is a form of martials art that takes disicipline, strength, endurane and concentration. You can do it with a class which with the support and motivation of other classmates help me to stay focused build confidence and relaxes my mind. This is a mind and body exercise that helps heighten your sences and builds strength. It can also be done one on one or by yourself. Running is another form of exercise that can be done as a group or individually it is great to do it on the treadmill with your favorite music on but lately the weather has changed and Saturday mornings sometimes Sundays I get to go in Prospect Park in Brooklyn NY and run. It does everything for you feeling the sun on you, watching all the families and kids playing and smelling all the new spring flowers and trees it relaxes, gives you a sense of energy that makes you feel alive.
Spiritual goes back to setting goals, I would need this to read more and be more involved. Sometimes reading about spiritual things can be hard to understand and discouraging, I would like to make more time and discuss spirituality with my wife. Make and effort not only to make it to church but bible study so I can ask questions and learn. Also by getting involved I want to plan more Sundays at church, get involved in the youth, outreach and other programs that associate with more spiritual belief and background.
Psychological and my spiritual  have the same type of goal setting but with psychological it is a bigger spectrum I want to take time out from my day and read more about what I am learning, teach my self more organization so my days are not overwhelmed then I can take the time and learn more about meditation. Take time to spend and grow with my new bride and newborn daughter also take a class about fitness, meditation or health and sit back and receive all the knowledge and not be so overwhelmed that you don't actually receive all of what is being taught.

Commitment

I will assess my progress or lack of progress in the next six months with my short-term goals and long-term goals. I would set aside time with my wife and I every 2 weeks to go over the progress and see the changes I have made to achieve my goals. The reason I would involve my wife because then you are accountable for somebody other than yourself and I know me, sometimes I need that push and my wife is that type of woman who is organize and believes and understands the reason in setting goals. She is a woman who always says to me “fail to plan and plan to fail” but just using the method of setting short-term goals to prepare you and keep your eyes on the big goal is a great way to succeed in almost any task.

Visualizing and Meditation

VISUALIZATION and MEDITATION

Visualizing a situation, a person or a goal helps to improve on that dream or goal. It helps to bring a  sense of reality, giving you something that makes it tangible.
Right now I am in a competition and sometimes I feel I am making no progress or I don’t believe enough, my wife is part of my support and we go threw these exercise together, she helps me to focus better. With this competition she always telling me you need to see and you will believe it, so visualize your goal to help you maintain that goal. I must say actually visualizing my self obtaining this goal gives me such a push.

But meditation is what pushes me over the top, it was hard and still a little hard but I have made progress and understand the positive effect of relaxing your mind, which helps you to visualize goals you are try to accomplish.

These two I feel work together to help achieve a total body and mind relaxation, which helps you to clear your head and be able to set goals.

"One cannot lead another
where one has not gone himself"

This saying means to me as a trainer and a person studying health and wellness how do I look speaking and telling people about good nutrition and physical fitness and I am eating fast foods 3 to 4 times a week or I am a smoker and over weight by choice. In simpler words “ Practice What You Preach”

Yes I do have obligation to my clients, to be developing my health psychologically, physically, and spiritually because my knowledge and well-being is a part of my work. My appearance and sense of understanding helps clients to have confidence in my work and me. This helps to keep them motivated and goes back to the first question "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself".

Meditative Practices

Hey everyone, I know you probably love the meditation. I am sorry I can’t be the same way.
I don’t completely fault the meditation sometimes, well a lot times its me I just can’t get into it I sit, I listen, I try to concentrate but then I begin thinking of other events, for example when
I tried on Friday I was thinking about my programing for my Training Camp Saturday morning at 7, 8 and 9 and a seminar I was going to Saturday ACSM at 1pm and finishing up my discussion questions before Saturday end for this class and my other. Oh yea and
this blog (insert small laugh).  But with this meditation trying to visualize a beam of light from the head or throat allowing it to take over qualities of a person you are thinking
of or imagined is not easy. Then again on Sunday trying to do it I was thinking of
my softball game, work on Monday and more. Maybe right now in my state of
confusions these methods is not the best for me but please don’t get me wrong I am not saying they can’t be successful, there just not for me right now. But I will keep trying.

Loving Kindness and Integral Assessment

Loving Kindness (meditation) exercise I did not appreciate it at first. I did have to try and relax and do it again. The second time was better because I was just in the room alone and my wife and daughter went out to the store. I took the time and tried to clear my mind which, this time was a little better, but not perfect when you have a million things going on it is hard to focus but I did. It was just okay to me.
The assessment I enjoyed much more it was a broader spectrum which forced you to think about all that goes on in your life but then pin point the things that most standout now like relationship, work, health and family. Right now my list fall in the order of family, health and work. Family is most important but what is funny you would have ask me 2weeks ago I would have said work because most of my focus and energy went into what was building with my job. So because of that this week its been about my family because I miss them.

So this week I made sure I got off a little earlier so I wasn’t coming home and kissing them goodnight going to bed waking up and they were still a sleep, I planed my weekend around them and involved them in whatever I was doing. For example I taught a boot camp class and wife participated and help me prepare our daughter came along and was great, she slept in he carriage for the 2 classes.

I try and balance my life or juggle for a better word because this week it could be family and next week work and so on. You just need to take time and assess your life weekly to try and prevent you from being overwhelmed or stressed.

 Loving Kindness

Was this experience beneficial, I didn’t feel that right now because I didn’t fully understand the whole exercise? I get your suppose to feel relaxed and loving kindness but I didn’t get that.

I am sorry these experiences are not very confortable to me. Sometimes I feel stupid sitting there trying to relax and think about inner feelings and feeling love in my heart. I get what they want me to do but I don’t feel all those reactions or maybe just don’t understand what reactions I am should feeling.

Just like online class is good but I am not going to lie I miss the actual physical interaction with people. I need that so I can feel and see what’s going it just feels more personal and you get a better reaction than just posting thoughts. Saying this I might understand more in a physical group or one on one with the teacher expressing and bouncing thoughts and reactions back and fourth.

 Physical-Spiritual-Psychological

On a scale of 1-10 my physical well-being is an 8. I work hard, I train hard but my eating habits suffer because of my crazy hours at work or sometimes I just don’t have the money. There is definitely room for improvement with my training also but I see big accomplishments in the last 3 to 4 months. The spiritual well-being is still very new, I know of it but not as focused. I would probably be a 4 maybe a 5 with push. That’s why thank god for my wife she would be a 10 plus and gives me that push. Now psychological well-being I would be a 10 but you ask my wife she may give you a different answer.

My goal to improve my physical well-being is get into the habit of planning and writing down my daily activities, with my spiritual it would be to just get more involved, maybe participating in bible study every Tuesday or Church on Sunday or dedicating 1 to 2hrs a week for my time to reflect and understand. I think what I do for my spiritual goal would help with my psychological well-being
Not sure what exercise but church and bible studies would help as activities.

I am sorry the jury is still out on the relaxation exercise I am just not a big fan of it. I have too much on my brain with, my newborn daughter, writing fitness programs for clients, preparing for the week, and building my fitness business. When I have things to do it is hard for me to take naps, and relax unless the work is done. I do relax when I am exercising or on Sundays I play baseball or football.
